Starting out in Spring

This is my dog, Biscotti. This is his favorite morning spot- neither entirely indoors nor out. Close enough to my desk for a quick pat, but also quick to chase after a bird that may dare to swoop down for a drink from the pond.

I love sharing my mornings with Biscotti. Karachi mornings are a special treasure- cool, fragrant and alive with birdsong. My 3 kids are in school, husband at work, and I have my coffee and a few hours to myself. I cherish these hours when I can potter around the garden, staking rampant orchids, or deadheading the last of the seasonal flowers. Sometimes the time is spent indoors, moving chairs, swapping pillows and just making things feel more homey. Other days are more even more languorous- reading the paper, a book or browsing other blogs. Finally, inspired my reading so many wonderful things, I have decided to put down my own thoughts and images- a reminder that regardless of what the day's headline read, life in Karachi does go on at least in my little corner as normally and as serenely as I can manage. There are certainly days when it is me who needs reminding.

  1. Love the title.Definitely looking forward to your posts, umbereen. I know they will provide food for thought and discourse. A lot of people would love to look at Karachi behind the national headlines-seeing the citizens 'creating a sanctuary in trouble waters,' as you succinctly put it.
